Northumbria University เดิมรู้จักกันในนาม Newcastle Polytechnic  มหาวิทยาลัยได้ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1969 โดยการรวมกันของ 3 regional colleges คือ Rutherford College of Technology(1894), College of Art & Industrial Design และ Municipal College of Commerce    ต่อมาในปี 1992 ได้ปรับสถานะเป็นมหาวิทยาลัย และในปี 2002 ได้มีการเปลี่ยนชื่อจาก University of Northumbria at Newcastle เป็น มหาวิทยาลัยนอร์ธัมเบรีย Northumbria University และเป็นหนึ่งในมหาวิทยาลัยที่นักเรียนไทยนิยมไปเรียนต่ออังกฤษ

เมืองนิวคาสเซิล (Newcastle) ได้รับการยอมรับจาก MSN Travel ว่าเป็น the UK’s Best University City ในปี 2009 และ 2010 เนื่องด้วยทัศนียภาพและสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกต่าง ๆ ที่น่าสนใจและมีเสน่ห์เป็นอย่างยิ่ง ในเมือง ได้ชื่อว่า 15 Minutes City เพราะในเมืองเดินได้โดยรอบ ๆ เมืองใน 15 นาที มีสถานที่น่าสนใจ เช่น Grainger Market  มี China town มีร้าน Asian shop อยู่หลายร้าน

นอกจากคะแนน IELTS แล้ว นักเรียนสามารถใช้คะแนน Duolingo สมัครเรียนกับ Northumbria University ได้  โดยเปรียบเทียบคะแนนกับ IELTS Academic ได้ดังนี้

ตัวอย่างการเปรียบเทียบคะแนน เช่น หลักสูตรปริญญาต้องการ IELTS 6.5 (5.5)  จะเทียบได้กับคะแนน Overall Duolingo 120 คะแนน including minimum component scores of 100(Literacy) 90(conversation) 105(Comprehension) and 80(Production)

Remark : Applications will typically be open until 30 June 2024 for MSc Occupational Therapy, MA Publishing and Bar Programmes.

เนื่องจากบางหลักสูตรเป็นที่นิยม มีที่นั่งเรียนจำกัด ทำให้วันสุดท้ายในการรับสมัครอาจเลื่อนเร็วขึ้น  ดังนั้นนักเรียนที่ต้องการสมัครควรจะรีบทำการสมัคร   แต่บางหลักสูตรที่ยังมีที่นั่งเรียนเหลือ อาจจะขยายเวลาวันสุดท้ายในการรับสมัครออกไปอีก
